Robe Street Garden
In 2006 the garden won the Edna Walling Award for Residential Designed Landscapes, awarded by the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects. The garden was also shortlisted for ‘Der beste Garten 2006 – best private plots 2006 – an international competition for residential garden design held in Langenlois, Austria, September 2006.
Over the years we have included more and more native plants into the garden. These are usually planted in a modernist manner, of blocks of single species separated by walls, level changes and hedges. The year round focus of these beds is the foliage contrasts, with a highlight period during flowering.
A new water feature was included in the last extension – a raised cast concrete pond that captures water from the roof, then distributes the excess to the garden. The rear water feature includes a blade wall with graffiti work by Thom Gascoigne.
The garden includes works by Richard Blackwell, Ros Lemoh, Franck Gohier, Marea Gazzard, Ian Marr, Richard Tipping, Geoff Farquhar Still, Bev Hogg, Thom Gascoigne & Jill Peck, as well as text-based works by Karina and Neil.
