John Curtin School of Medical Research

Australian National University

Harris Hobbs has been involved in stages 2 and 3 of the John Curtin School of Medical Research project. There are two open courtyard spaces, with large planters. ‘Unusual’ native plants were selected species were chosen for the courtyards, including Kauri Pine, a relocated Kurrajong from the campus, Mallee Eucalypts and a Wollemi Pine. Lower canopy plants include Grass Trees Gymea Lilies and prostrate Banksias.

There is a sheer excavation between the new buildings and the retained JCSMR buildings to the south. The bare rock face was planted with tubestock Hardenbergia, with some success. Callitris and Acacia implexa were also planted at the toe of the excavation to grow to screen the rock face from the new building.
