Red Hill garden
Form and shape are the key design elements within the ‘house’ garden. Blade stone walls divide the house lawn from the rest of the garden. A triangular grass pyramid resolves some awkward shapes left by the original house. Irregular prisms of exposed aggregate concrete link the circulation needs, while breaking up the diagonal line of the original house, allowing the landscape to have dominance over the built form.
The circulation paths lead to a seating area in the shade of a very large Tasmanian Blue Gum, planted with a range of grasses and forbs. This space is central within the garden, giving views to the whole of the site.
