Belconnen Arts Centre Walkway
Belconnen Foreshore
2018 - 2021
Client: Transport Canberra and City Services
Project awarded Civic Design awards at ACT AIILA awards June 2022.
Design brief
This project marked the first stage in the redevelopment of the southern shores of Lake Ginninderra, aimed at enhancing pedestrian and recreational cycling connections along the lake edge and into Belconnen Town Centre.
Works included significant earthworks to reshape the shoreline—removing a sharp corner that previously trapped debris—and naturalising the lake edge. A new walkway now links the Belconnen Arts Centre with the adjacent commercial precinct to the south.
The landscape design features locally indigenous grasses and water-margin plantings, with deciduous trees providing shade and seasonal interest to an outdoor performance space near the Arts Centre.
