Lonsdale St Streetscape Upgrade

Harris Hobbs Landscape Architects collaborated with SMEC and Indesco to upgrade four pedestrian crossings along Lonsdale Street and deliver a new roundabout at Mort Street in Braddon.

The brief included street tree renewal, upgraded urban furniture, and the introduction of vibrant, floriferous garden beds designed for year-round interest—within the constraints of Canberra’s challenging climate.

Planting selections featured bold foliage and seasonal flowering, with emphasis on winter structure and resilience. All species were chosen for their ability to thrive in tough, unirrigated conditions beneath the canopy of existing Platanus trees.
